Modern wellness for a complex world

Neuropsychological testing and Interpersonal therapy to help you better understand yourself, and move forward with insight and intention.
Clarity  in a Distracted World

Although we're constantly connected, we’re increasingly disconnected from ourselves and each other

In today’s digital world, attention issues and relationship struggles are more common than ever. Whether it’s missing deadlines or feeling disconnected from a partner, the root often lies in emotional overload, shame, loneliness, and a culture that values productivity over presence.

These aren’t problems a worksheet or AI can fix. They require a human relationship built on safety, reflection, and genuine connection. Shame softens when met with curiosity, and loneliness begins to ease when our pain is truly seen.

MODERN WELLNESS, DEEPER INSIGHt.

Meet Dr. Sara Schapiro

Hi, I’m Dr. Schapiro, a licensed Clinical psychologist and Certified Sex Therapist in New York. My work bridges two specialties: Neuropsychological Assessment and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

For some, that means pinpointing learning challenges like ADHD. For others, it’s creating space to explore intimacy, identity, or attachment without shame or pressure to have it all figured out.

I’m one of the few psychologists offering Yiddish-language testing. Beyond testing, my therapy practice integrates gender-affirming care, religious and sexual health, and a commitment to helping you untangle what feels unclear.

Education and Clinical Training

Trusted expertise shaped by years of practice

Each stage of my training has deepened my understanding of how people connect, adapt, and grow. This foundation allows me to combine evidence-based practices with a compassionate, affirming approach, supporting clients in navigating challenges and building stronger relationships with themselves and others.

Highlights:

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
Adelphi University; internship at NYU Rusk Rehabilitation, specializing in neuropsychological evaluations post brain and spinal cord injury.
Two-Year Postdoctoral Fellowship
Neuropsychological assessments across the lifespan with Dr. David Erlanger.
Master’s in Mental Health Counseling
Long Island University; internship at Rikers Island Correctional Facility.
Certified Sex Therapist

SERVICES

Two services. One purpose.

Insight-driven
neuropsychological testing

If you’re a parent, student, or professional trying to better understand learning or attention challenges, I provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and ADHD screeners. Every evaluation includes insights, actionable recommendations, and clear next steps.

Respectful interpersonal & intimacy therapy

If you’re seeking therapy around intimacy, identity, or modern relationship issues, I offer a long-term, personalized process rooted in interpersonal psychodynamic psychotherapy. No chat apps or quick fixes. Just grounded, consistent care, with accountability.

MODERN WELLNESS

Understanding starts with the right questions

I believe in creating a space where it’s safe to face emotions you’ve learned to avoid. Because when you can feel something fully, in the presence of someone who can hold it all with you, it becomes possible to carry that confidence into the rest of your life.

  • Children and teens with learning, attention, or behavioral challenges
  • College students and professionals needing clarity for school or workplace accommodations
  • Individuals referred for specialized neuropsychological testing, including Yiddish-language assessments
  • Adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, concerns
  • Individuals exploring identity and intimacy concerns
  • LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse clients seeking affirming care

Only if you’re tired of hiding how much you’re holding and want to move forward, but first need to feel seen. Shame and loneliness often sit at the heart of your struggle, and those feelings don’t shift through self-help books or digital tools alone. I’m here to walk with you through the parts of yourself that are asking to be understood.

I do not accept insurance directly. However, some clients are able to receive out-of-network reimbursement through Superbill; however, there is no guarantee of this.

Magnetic love

Magnetic love

Love isn’t content with being “close enough”. It seeks direct connection. When two people truly love each other, persistence isn’t desperation; it’s devotion.

Introducing interpersonal therapy and mentalization-based therapy

Introducing interpersonal therapy and mentalization-based therapy

Interpersonal Psychotherapy helps you see how past relationships shape your present, while Mentalization-Based Therapy builds curiosity about others’ perspectives. Together, they open the door to more balanced thinking, deeper connection, and emotional healing.

Why we have intimacy problems

A strong sense of self is the foundation for true intimacy. Without it, closeness can feel like engulfment and making connection a threat instead of a gift.
